April is Stress Awareness Month. American Family Care describes Stress Awareness Month as, " a time when healthcare professionals from across the country join forces to increase public awareness about not only the causes, but also the treatments for the growing stress epidemic in our country."

Three reasons why Stress Awareness Month is important:
  1. It encourages us to reflect on our health
  2. Almost all of us are dealing with stress in some regard
  3. The Stress Awareness Campaign has been educating since 1992

Beyond the importance of Stress Awareness Month, it’s important to actively work on reducing stress. American Family Care offers several tips to cope with stress.

Tips for handling stress:

Exercise: Getting your heart rate up and being active for even 20 minutes a day can reduce stress throughout the entire body.

Relax: Find time to do things that you enjoy and activities that calm your mind. Examples include yoga, writing, or listening to music.

Seek fun: Find friends, activities, or events that make you happy and fill you up with happiness.
