What is a Scattering Garden?

Scattering Garden:

A dedicated area of cemeteries and memorial parks set aside for scattering loved one's cremated remains. If you have cremated remains or inherited an urn with the remains of a loved one, contact your local cemeteries or memorial park for more information and costs.

Below is a list of options for scattering cremated remains in Washington.

  • National parks, after receiving permission.
  • State trust uplands, after obtaining permission from the appropriate Department of Natural Resources region manager.
  • Public navigable waters under state control.
  • The Pacific Ocean beyond the mean lower low water mark.
  • Private land, with the permission of the land owner.
See the Washington State Department of Licensing link for more details, or check your state for scattering options.
